Flower in my hair!

by , in
Too much, and I mean too much, is happening in my life right now! Apart from work, work & more work, a whole bunch of friends getting married one after the other in the next 2 months & travel plans with family in between; there are lots more that I cannot share with you all right now...........& which, am sure I'll be able to tell you once things work out the way I want them to...........but I can assure you that am going through quite a "happening" phase of life!!! ;)

It's been another hectic week.........but nevertheless, a not-so-bad one! Had some really fun time with friends/colleagues! The exit polls (India is a democratic country - we vote & choose our leaders once every 4 years) in my city were scheduled for the middle of the week. I exercised my democratic rights for the first time (yes, am almost 7 years late, the qualifying age being 18 years!)........& felt like an important citizen of the country doing my duty!!! :)

These pictures are from mid-week. Summers are on in full swing here.......& it's maddeningly HOT throughout the day and night! Am really frustrated about the fact that we can't wear shorts & skirts to office.........sigh! But then, nothing much I can do there (apart from changing jobs.......or stop working altogether)........hence, having to go around fully clothed even in this sweltering heat! :(

Comfort is of great importance in this weather.........so, I didn't think twice about pulling out my most comfortable pair of corduroy trousers. Corduroy in summer, you say??? This pair is as light as it is comfy!

This navy cotton blouse is another favorite summer piece.......like its silhouette & cute puffed sleeves! :)

This pearls & chain neckpiece sets off brilliantly against the deep blue of the top. Also, piled on the blue & gold bangles to complement the neckpiece.

I generally pin back my bangs..........but thought would do something fun with my hair that day! The tulle flower is actually a brooch that I've worn as a hair pin........isn't it pretty? It was a sweet gift from Etsy store owner Venus 11 who'd sent it as a surprise gift with my order of 2 other brooches!!! :))

Navy top: Pantaloons, Kolkata
Beige corduroy trousers: Shoppers Stop, Kolkata
Pearls & chains neckpiece: Shoppers Stop, Kolkata
Bangles: Assorted, Mumbai/ Kolkata
Watch: Fastrack, gifted by friend
Flower brooch (worn as hairpin): Etsy, gifted by Venus 11
Shoes: Hamlyn, Kolkata

So.................what weekend plans guys??????? Am gonna have a busy, working Saturday.......but looking forward to enjoying my Sunday with friends! Let's see how it works out.........

You all have a rocking weekend! Have fun..........& keep it stylish! :)

Lots of love,
Polka Princess

Grey-black with a hint of red!

by , in
Hello...hello........helloooooooooo!!!! How've all of you been??? I know I've been away for quite some time (same ol' excuse - WORK!!!).........but as promised, am back with an outfit post! :)

First & foremost, A VERY HAPPY EASTER to all of you out there! Hope you guys are having a lovely time & a wonderfully festive weekend!! I, as always, had a working Saturday and am gonna have a working Sunday too! (Beat that!!)
And I better stop here & now before my cribbing becomes more hysteric & endless!

These pictures are from LAST Sunday when I was at my friend's studio helping another friend with hair & make-up for his photoshoot..........couldn't help frolicking in front of the camera for a while.........excuse the weird poses & tired (read drab) look!! :)

This grey tank with red buttons & frills was bought in Bangkok in March '10.........my mom found it so cute that she picked it up in 3 colors - Grey/Red, Brown/Yellow, Red/Green (the other 2 have long been declared as my sister's property)!

Found this black blouse while going through a pile of old clothes the other day! This was one of my favorite pieces (it's almost a decade old) of clothing.......but had somehow forgotten all about it until I saw it peeking out from under all the old clothes.........am glad I found it back!! :)

Please excuse the demented pose - my friend was just being his goofy self and taking advantage of the camera in his hand!! :-P

It was a on-the-spur-of-the-moment outfit.........but I quite liked how it turned out.........specially the way the different lengths of the 2 tops created interesting layers & also the li'l pops of red here & there!! :))

Accessories consisted of my big hoops for the ears, Eiffel Tower pendant neckpiece, my ever-dependable bow ring & a mixed stack of bangles.....

Grey & red tank: Platinum Mall, Bangkok
Black blouse: Vintage (almost)
Cropped trousers: Wills Lifestyle, Kolkata
Red hoops: ???
Neckpiece: Gifted by friend
Bangles: Assorted
Bow ring: Accessorise, Bangalore
Watch: Kenneth Cole, Kolkata
Peep-toe wedges: Enroute, Kolkata

It was a fun shoot though........with all of us having a rocking time together!!!
Will keep thinking of all those crazy moments & more as I slog through office tomorrow! :(

Anyways, hope all of you have a fabulous Sunday!!! Catch you all next week.............till then, keep it stylish!

Asta la vista,

Review: Tommy Hilfiger Kidswear SS '11

by , in
Hey there lovelies! It's review time again!!! And what better way to usher in the summer than to look up the SS '11 collections for Tommy Hilfiger Kidswear..........I mean, doesn't Summer stand for fun, frolic, laughter & cheer and isn't that what kids are all about??? :)

This time around, the inspirations for the collection were America's elite Ivy League universities as well as the tropical island of Hawaii. Hence, what we can see on the racks is a fun, preppy yet classic Tommy Hilfiger collection with a new twist. The colors are bright & cheery with a vintage edge. As for patterns, expect to see a lot of checks, classic Hilfiger stripes, badges, patches, graphic prints & also florals!

So, here's a look at some of their smart & preppy offerings for today's trendy li'l brats:

The Little League styles of the collection have been inspired by the celebrated rowing races between Harvard & Yale and the way the young Ivy League crowd dress up for the event. Stripes & checks for boys and multi-colored florals for girls are the highlights of this collection along with number patches & logos for that vintage varsity touch.

The American Prep styles scream classy Hilfiger sophistication. The boys can take their pick from preppy checks & stripes in Hilfiger heritage colors of red, white & blue along with pops of green, pink & yellow for that fun twist. Polo shirts, blazers & chinos represent the iconic Ivy League essentials.

The girls' take on American Prep is evident in the bright pops of colors with checked or striped accents. The girls' styles with elements of frills & bows are smart, fun & preppy with an edge.

Last, but not the least, the Hawaii Hula styles draw inspiration from the holiday states of Hawaii. The beaches, the sun-n-sand, the tropical scenery - all come alive on a whole range of tees, vests & shorts. Also, exotic floral prints make the girls' styles summery & eye-catching!

I've just showcased some of my favorite picks from an entire collection of such smart, casual & preppy pieces. For all these & more, do visit the Tommy Hilfiger stores:

Stylish!! Who...Me???

by , in
Oh My God!!! I'm still so chuffed about the fact that I got yet another blog award this month! I mean, it's been almost a week that I've got this award (and I'm getting the time to post it now), but am still absolutely stirred up about it!!! :))

What makes the whole deal oh-so-more perfect is that it was none other than the gorgeous, stunning & vivacious Dusk of The Dusk Zone who gave me the "Stylish Blogger Award"! Those of you who know Dusk & admire her (there's no way you can not do that) will know why am still hyper-ventilating from the sheer joy of getting an award from her.......I mean, getting a "Stylish Blogger Award" from one of the most stylish, sexy, beautiful blogger I know???........now if that doesn't give you a high, nothing else ever will!!! ;)

Dusk is an inspiration in herself & the fact that she finds my blog worthy enough of this honor is the really really greatest compliment my humble blog can ever get! Thanx a bunch once again gorgeous lady........you always have been & always will be an object of admiration and inspiration for me.........mwaah!!

Now, as per tradition, I've to share 7 things about myself with you all and give this award to 10 other stylish bloggers.........so, ready....get....set.....& GO!!!

Here comes 7 things about me that you guys didn't know till now (curious?):

1. I'm not a very Tea or Coffee kind of person. I have both occassionally, specially when out with friends. The only beverage that I have daily in office is hot lemon tea.....that's one brew which I find very refreshing.
2. I'm always in love with....well...."love"! I'm a very romantic person & all nuances of love are appreciated & admired by me.......even when I'm not in any relationship! ;)
3. I'm a self-confessed foodie. Period.
4. And a book-worm too! Lock me in a room with nothing else but a book.......I'll survive till the last page is turned! Then I may start screaming! :P
5. I'm a true-blue Piscean - poetic, dreamy, impractical & sensitive.....
6. I'm terribly scared of Spiders & Snakes!!
7. Chocolates......& a genuine smile always make my day!!! :))

And now that you guys know a li'l bit more about me.........it's time for me to pass on this award to 10 bloggers (in no particular order) who never fail to inspire me:

1. Prutha of Don't Shoe Me - Ecclectic, bold, fun & fearless!
2. Zarna of Zarna's Runway - This leggy lass is a versatile stunner!
3. Tashrin of Tashrin - She's sweet....she's simple.....and she's stylish.
4. Smrithi of Vintage Obsession - One of the first bloggers I've personally met, this girl's as beautiful inside as she's outside!!!
5. Holly & Sally of Hippie By Heart Thinks Fashion Is Art - These girlies have the most awesome jewelery around!
6. Sonu & Jasleen of Fashion Bombay - Style, poise, talent & a way with words - these fashionistas have got it all!
7. Bonnie of Flashes Of Style - This girl exudes softness, feminity & a lovely sense of style.
8. Ruhi of Republic of Chic - A perfect fashionista!
9. Karishma of Purple Peeptoes - Quirky, colorful & all things in between...
10. Veronika of Tick Tock Vintage - Her innocence, sweetness & simplicity is reflected in her demeanour. And of course, she carries herself in style....always!!

All said & done, here are the rules for those of you who have been conferred with this award:
  • Show your appreciation, acknowledging & linking back to the person who has given you this award.
  • Share 7 things about yourself.
  • Pass on this award to 10 recently discovered great bloggers (the definition of "recent" is relative).
  • Drop in a line at the chosen blogs letting their stylish owners know that they've been awarded!
That's all for now people............hope the wonderful bloggers I passed on the award to will receive it in style!

Till next time,

Take care,
Polka Princess

Are you kidding me?

by , in
Sorry, sorry, sorry for the lack of posts all week!!! But I was extremely busy at work whole week (what's new...you say???)............actually, not quite busy working at work, but busy organizing, planning & arranging a cultural event that we are putting up next week at work! We have this event every year where we have different teams from amongst ourselves competing with each other in categories such as dancing, singing, fashion show & "Go as you like".........and me, being the unofficial Cultural Secretary at my workplace, have to go crazy organizing the whole shenanigan. So, for the past week, I have been running about, downloading songs from the net, discussing walks & poses, designing invites, dancing my feet off and teaching others to dance all throughout the day! Hence, once am back home at around 9.30-10.00 every night, I have just about enough energy left to gulp down a couple of mouthfuls of dinner & hit the bed........

So my lovelies.........the crux of the matter is that I still haven't got any outfit posts to share with you all........but what I have got for you is another crop of my treasured clicks from the archives.......and these are fairly recent ones at that (had gone out on a clicking spree early on Sunday morning!).

In fact, what you'll see here is an impromptu shoot on Child Labour. Though all the shots are candid & it's not a properly directed shoot, per se, (and these are just a few of numerous other snaps from my excursion that day) but once I got back home & saw these pictures, the whole series somehow really caught my attention. It really saddened me to see how much regressed we still are in terms of civilisation & humanity. I mean, for God's sake, aren't these kids suppossed to be at school???

Anyways, nothing much I could do there, except for clicking pictures & sharing my concerns with you all (who patiently hear out all my rantings)...........just hope that some day, these innocent li'l victims of corruption & power will be able to fight for themselves & lead the country to a better future!!!

Will share other pictures from this photo-walk next week...........till then, stay tuned! Hope I can put up another outfit post soon. Have a rocking weekend guys!!!!! :)

Ciao,

Yeah!! Am sure by now all Indians (and others too) all around the globe know what I'm talking about!! YES!!! We won the Cricket World Cup!!!!!!!! And right now, at least in India, nothing can be bigger than that! Can't tell you how stoked we all are with the win last night.........it was the proudest moment of our lives & we are really lucky & honored to have witnessed this moment in our lifetime! Yesterday night was one big party for all Indians........fireworks lit up the night sky, people poured out onto the streets with flags flying high & screams of joy piercing the night air, slogans were being chanted at full volume & the World Cup song (De Ghumake) being sung by all & sundry.........it was a complete madhouse......but we all loved every minute of it!!! :))

And to add on to the celebrations, like vanilla icing on a delicious, yummy chocolate truffle cake, yours truly have been given a "One lovely Blog Award" by the awesome, stylish, generous & gorgeous Bella of The Citizen Rosebud. If she's not added to your blogroll yet, now's the time to do it, trust me, you'll only thank me later for introducing you to this lovely lady! Once again, thanks a bunch, Bella dear for this honor.......your constant support & encouragement is what keeps me & my blog going!!! :)

And as per tradition, I'll be passing on this award to 3 of my favorite bloggers, who are style icons in their own fashionable ways & who inspire me not only as fashionistas but also as the lovely human beings that they are:

1. The uber-chic & ultra-fabulous Tanvii of  The Fabulous Life of Not-So-Rich and Infamous - I'm sure most you know & follow this diva.......those of you who don't, you don't know what you are missing out on! So, head over to Tanvii's fabulous blog now & see what I mean! :)

2. The pretty as porcelain Cee of Coco and Vera - she's lovely in the way she dresses, the way she talks (or writes) & the way she sees things around her.........be sure to check out this stylish li'l lady, am sure you won't be disappointed!

3. The smart & talented Federica of ChiccaStyle - She's a self-taught designer, an Etsy store owner, a fashion blogger & an absolute sweetheart, all rolled into one! You must visit her blog and her Etsy store......trust me, you'll fall in love too!!!

Now for the instructions that the lovely recipients of this Award have to follow:
1. Post this award on you blog together with the name of the person (yours truly) who gave you the award with their blog link.
2. Pass the award on to 3 other bloggers who you feel truly deserve it.
3. Let them know you've chosen them for this award, so they can pay it forward too.

A World Cup & a Lovely Blog Award - it's winning time all right!!!! :)))

Hugs,
Polka Princess
