Making a statement

by , in
Hey guys! I'm back..........& back with something a bit different from my personal fashion feats! :)

Don't get scared, it's to do with fashion only......but in a slightly different manner.....

I don't know how many of you remember me setting up shop in this post. Those who do, already know & those who don't, will get to know now that I have a li'l just-starting-out brand called Howrah Bridge........this brand is my baby & it has handmade accessories like brooches & neckpieces. It also does dresses, but right now, only for a very select & local clientele.

We all know what a rage statement neckpieces are in the fashion scene throughout the world. It's become a mandatory wardrobe essential to have, right after a white shirt, a little black dress & a good pair of denims.

Howrah Bridge also does statement neckpieces that are bold, quirky & fun.........and can lend a fashionable twist to any mundane outfit!
So, today, I thought, I'll share some of the statement neckpieces by Howrah Bridge along with ways of wearing the same!!!

Intrigued? Then scroll down........

The "Up & Down" necklace - geometric, vibrant, fun.

Wear it with a plain white racerback tee & olive/khaki pleated trousers. The muted shades of the clothes bring out the bright colors of the necklace. Tan brogues (heels for a li'l oomph) & a tan satchel provide the perfect accessories in neutral shades. Complete the look with a chunky gold watch & gold-rimmed aviators. Let those vibrant colors be the focal point of the whole outfit!

The "Binge on Fringe" necklace - rustic, tribal, unique.

Wear it with a romantic white shirt with lantern sleeves and a pair of well-cut, slim fit blue denims. Button up till the collar & wear the necklace ON the shirt. Fringed black boots continue the tassel tale. A cocktail ring with a chunky rock on it, is necessary for the hand that holds the big black envelope clutch. An outfit that'll rock as much at a brunch out with friends as at a gig of the boyfriend's band.

The "Pleated Bib" necklace - quirky, bold, beautiful.

Wear it with a bright, but solid colored strapless dress. The whole neck will be dominated by this big beauty! A stack of bangles in different colors compliments the splash of colors on the neck. A pair of pretty printed espadrille wedges in a contrast color which matches the cute li'l bag with wooden handles will set off the plain dress perfectly. Wear this look to a beach festival & turn heads  in style!

So guys..........what do you think of these Howrah Bridge products?
Will you wear them in the ways shown above? Or can you style these in more head-turning ways???

Do lemme know... :)

You can also see & shop more stuff at the Howrah Bridge blog or the Facebook page. In case of any queries regarding the details or prices of the above necklaces, please mail me at howrahbridgebyadg@gmail.com

Have a great week ahead people...........Happy Sunday night! ^_^

Ready for Red???

by , in
Hey there lovelies!

How've you all been this past week??? Thanks a lot for all your lovely comments on my last post........your words mean the world to me!!! I'm so glad that I've got such a lovely bunch of readers out there! :)

How many of you all were affected by the 3-day Blackberry mishap that hit the world a few days back? Did you all go "Gah! My world is ruined!" or just shrug your shoulders & think "Thank God! I can live in peace for a while..."???
Well.....I, for one, was quite indifferent to it all. It really didn't rock my world & leave me devastated or such.... It was just another piece of news for me (though the irregular mails on my phone did become a bit irritating after 2 days)....does that prove that I'm not a Blackberry addict? Good! Coz I hate any kind of addiction!! (Chocolate doesn't count.......does it?)

The whole BlackBerry-pays-3 day-silent-tribute-to-Apple's-Steve Jobs joke did tickle me in the right places the first time though! (But only the first time, mind you! NOW, it's getting tedious!)

In other more-fashion blogger-friendly news, I'm absolutely OD-ing on my pair of new red pants! Yes, I've finally got myself a pair (right after the whole freaking world & it's neighbor!)........& am terribly obsessed with it!! I'm wearing it with almost anything & everything (and am apologizing in advance for not having pictures of all my red pants-related outfits)..........also basking in the glory of churning out different outfits using one pair of pants! :))

For now, I can share only this outfit that I've had the time to photograph..........do excuse all this hullabaloo about a pair of red pants that many of you must be sick & tired of already..........to every child his toy, I guess!

Ok....this was not intentional...........but I kinda liked the way it came out........so...

Now, this is what I'm talking about! See why I'm in love with these red beauties???

Trying to strike a pose that you've not seen here for a million times! :P

And of course, I had to show you the back of this top........interesting, ain't it?

A very Grecian drape, if you ask me....
I always wear this with bright colored tanks underneath.........the peep of color is always fun! :)

And now for a couple of my very favorite pieces of accessories that are recent additions to my ever-growing collection - this quirky li'l wide-eyed owl & my new snakeskin cuff! :D

(Can you believe it? I had to go back to that shop twice later to buy more pieces of that owl for people who saw mine & wanted one for themselves too! The amount of charity I do...I tell you!!! *rolling eyes*)

It's not always that I have a close-up shot of the earrings for you guys.........but these white & gold beauties almost demanded it!

Top: United Colors of Benetton
Red denims: 109F
Yellow tank: Pantaloons
Owl pendant: Vile Parle, Mumbai
Snakeskin cuff: ASOS
Earrings: Platinum Mall, Bangkok
Watch: Fastrack, gifted by uncle
Embroidered sandals: INC.5

Well...........that's all my "red" rantings for now! You'll be seeing a LOT more of these red pants in the posts to come..........can't tell me that I didn't warn you!

I'm looking forward to a relaxed & creative Sunday ahead (working on some projects.......hope to share with you guys soon!)..........what's your plan???

Have a happy week ahead guys!

Much love,

A piece of India

by , in
A BIG hellooooooooo to all of you out there!!!
Yes! I'm back in action after a satisfying vacation..........& boy! Am I glad to be back among all my lovely blogger buddies!!! :))

The last week has been quite exciting, hectic & fun-filled what with the Durga Puja, Navaratri & Dussehra celebrations on all over the country............these festivals hold certain amount of significance to certain sects of Indians.........while Dussehra is primarily celebrated in North India, Navaratri is the predominant festival of the Western part of the country............and we, people originating from East India (particularly, Bengal), take great pride & pleasure in celebrating the Durga Puja....... :)

The Goddess Durga supposedly comes home to her parents' abode (that is the Earth) with her four children & stays with us mortals for 5 days...............these 5 days are celebrated with great pomp & grandeur to celebrate the home-coming of our Mother, the Goddess. All 5 Gods & Goddesses are worshiped with reverence on these days, with temporary temples being erected all over the cities for putting up the idols of the deities. In fact, it's almost become a full-fledged competition between different clubs & societies (who organize these Pujas) to establish that each one is better than the other, with specific themes for each group & idols, pandals, decor, lighting - all according to the theme! The Goddess Durga is depicted centrally with her four children - Goddess Saraswati (Goddess of learning & music), Goddess Laxmi (Goddess of wealth), God Ganesh (God of prosperity) & God Karthik (God of skill) - around her...........and the festivities depict the celebrations for the victory of Good over Evil. The Goddess Durga also has ten arms & she yields one weapon in each arm with which she valiantly fights & wins over the evil demon Mahishasura! On the 5th & final day of the festival, the idols of the deities are taken & immersed in rivers or ponds/lakes (the idols are made of straw & mud, thus being bio-degradable & hence not damaging the water-bodies), thus depicting that She has gone back to her husband's place in the Kailash mountains (in the Himalayas).............and we begin another year-long wait for Her to come back to spend some time with us....

A sneak peek of a few different idols of the Goddess & her children with all their grand decor:

My dear friend Sacramento of Mis Papelicos, after seeing the pictures of the festival shared on Facebook by me, suggested that all this is interesting enough to feature in a post.............so here I am, writing about a unique & traditionally rich part of my culture............hope you all found it as interesting as Sacramento did! :)

Another factor that adds to the festivities during this time is that, we, Bengalis, have to wear new clothes during these 5 days!!! Now, you know what that means.........right??? Lots of pre-Puja shopping.........and a few lovely outfits to rig up for 5 whole days! :))

So.........here's one of my outfits from the festive times............this is what I wore on the 3rd day of the Puja - the Mahashtami (which is also supposed to be the most pious day).............and traditionally we tend to wear ethnic clothes on this particular day. Hence, the Indian kurta-churidar (Indian tunic & leggings) avatar.......so much for heritage! :)

There was this cute cart with flowers baskets on it outside a store.........couldn't resist posing beside it! ^_^

As always, I like my colors nice & bright!! And the quirky painted wall provided a lovely backdrop for my already colorful outfit! :)

This tunic/kurta is designed by me & tailored as per specifications! :D

Also, am wearing lovely embroidered cloth earrings gifted by a sweet friend & a cute tissue flower ring........sorry, but don't have close-up shots of the accessories!

Kurta/tunic: Self-made, tailored
Leggings: Shoppers Stop, Kolkata
Bag: BK Market, Kolkata
Earrings: Fabindia, gifted by friend
Bangles: Mumbai
Flower ring: Bliss, Pune
Watch: Kenneth Cole, Kolkata
Sunnies: Polo Club, Kolkata
Sandals: Inc.5, Kolkata

Now that festive time is over........it's back to mundane Monday mornings & workplace woes!!! :(

Have a great week ahead people!

Take care,
Polka Princess
