Turning Five and New Beginnings

by , in
"Every year, on your birthday,
You get a chance to start new"
~ Sammy Hagar

So, today, on the blog's fifth birthday, I give you something new indeed!!!

Chappals vs Stilletoes is stepping into its fifth year as STYLE PRISM!
The same blog, but with a whole new look, a whole new identity and its own new domain!!!
We are now live at :)

As I have shared with you all here, there has been a lot of changes in my life recently. So, I thought why not extend the excitement of new changes to my blog too?
Thus, Style Prism was born.
With not one, but two cities as operational bases and the passion to talk about much more than fashion on these pages; my blog suddenly took on the form of a multi-faceted prism.
So, STYLE PRISM is not only a personal style blog anymore - my little baby has now matured into a platform where we'll talk fashion, food, art, travel, lifestyle and much, much more!

The birthday post which is officially the first post on Style Prism, brings to you my afternoon antics at a park in my new neighborhood, albeit wearing a new dress. (Birthdays do call for new dresses, right?)

I wanted this post to reflect the new city that I call home and one of the best things that I like about Bangalore is the abundance of greenery all around. The city is not called the Garden City for nothing and hence, I chose this park as a backdrop to flaunt my new dress which contributes its own share of foliage to the scene!

Now let's cut the cake and move on to the pictures!!! :)

[Hand-block printed cotton maxi dress: Howrah Bridge | Silver layered necklace: Commercial Street, Bangalore | Silver geometric ring: International Trade Fair, Kolkata | Watch: Kenneth cole | Navy bag: Kate Spade NY | Blue & Taupe wedges: Hamlyn | On my lips: Pink Hotmail by Colorbar | On my nails: Bloody Mary by Colorbar]

What do you all think of the change?

Are you as excited about this new beginning as I am???

Keep showing me the love and support!
I'd love it if some of it comes as comments!! ;)

Stay tuned for loads of new things coming up!

Here's to turning five! Cheers!!!

Trends to follow: How to style outfits differently this season?

by , in
The season is big on trends like layering-it-up, fusion and chunky jewelry. Yes, that way there’s a lot one can do and styling oneself turns out to be a lot interesting. So, how one can go about it as not all are gifted with imaginative mind that can work on the “being trendy” part. Fetching compliments for what you wear always gives you confidence and brings out the charm in you. Here we are making things easier and stylish. We have lined up a few looks that you can try. Get ready to dazzle!

How to layer it up crop tops and tank tops?
Even though monsoon showers continue and air carries humidity, the stylistas can’t do without capes and shrugs as layering it up is so big this season. The newest trend is of kimono cape (with or without fringes). The loose shrugs can be worn with your crop tops, spaghetti tops and even with tank tops. Go for a pair of ripped jeans and flip flops. The style is cool for even plus size females as it helps to camouflage extra flab here and there. Buy long shrugs and kimonos from as brands like Harpa, River Island, Vero Moda and others have a good collection.

Jazz it up with jewellery!
Jewellery always helps to come up with a striking look. Your evening gowns, shift dresses, skater dresses and maxis will look a lot attractive if you team it up with some chunky jewellery. Pick bead-necklaces or fusion tribal jewellery in gold and silver and jazz up the look. Your evening gowns will look perfect with ear cuffs, while shift dresses and skater outfits look alluring with statement necklaces.

Fusion is in! Be desi girl with a twist
Thanks to Kareena Kapoor in ‘Jab We Met’, girls know that Patiala salwars can be worn with tees, tops and shirts. The trend has been done to death, but still has many takers. When it comes to fusion salwars have gone through many changes. Get a pair of dhoti pants or harems to wear it with your short kurtis and tank tops. Go for a dupatta or you can even pair a summer jacket with it. If you find yourself a boho chick, this style is not new to you, while others can try it and come out from their comfort zone.

Remember, style is all about experimentation and trying out different things. If you have it in you, flaunt it. Don’t be scared to take chances! Be you!

What's Hip In Food This Summer?

by , in
Just like fashion, the food industry nowadays also thrive on trends.
People like to follow what's in and what's out before subjecting their taste buds to the exciting flavours of new dishes and promising textures of new cuisines.

When I found out about FoodPanda's blogger contest (albeit a tad bit late), I was intrigued to participate in it just because of the theme. called bloggers to give their take on the trending food for this summer and writing about what's hip not in fashion, but in food, sounded like an exciting alternative to me! :)

After scrolling through the FoodPanda app for the options of restaurants available that will deliver to my place, I settled upon Chinese - a cuisine that's a classic. A cuisine that never goes out of style. A cuisine that's an instant pick-me-up. A cuisine that's always in trend!
I picked a Chinese restaurant named Chowman and I must say deciding from their vast menu of mouth-watering oriental dishes was as tough as it gets.

When the steaming hot package of happiness was delivered at my doorstep, the very sight of the food warmed my soul! :)

On a sultry summer evening, nothing can beat the comfort of forkfuls of lightly-tossed hakka noodles or aromatic chicken & egg fried rice.

And of course, they don't call these Drums of "Heaven" for nothing!!! <3

A plateful of yumminess served with a side of Sliced Chicken in Oyester Sauce - tangy, succulent and just the right flavour for the rice.

I always find Oriental cuisine to be light, flavourful and perfect for summer when food with too much oil or too much cheese might not sit well with our digestive systems.
Hence, Chinese gets my vote hands down if you ask me about summer food trends.

And maybe Ice-cream comes a very second close.

What's on your favourite summer menu?
