An Indian Summer {Style Prism x Bohurupi by Roy}

In a tropical country like India, it's summer (read hot) for most part of the year.....but still, the hottest months, i.e., from April to June (or till the rain Gods have mercy on us), are said to be the quintessential Indian summer.

Even though we may be forever cribbing about the sweltering heat, the unbearable humidity, the blazing sun and the stuffy air swirling around us, our summers are not only about these climatic conditions.
Our summers also mean vibrant flowers, lush greenery, chirping birds, fresh cotton clothes and midsummer night's dreams. Our summers mean tall glasses of iced teas and tumblers of watermelon coolers; our summers mean gorging on ice-cream on evening walks along roads fragrant with wafting smells of summer flowers; our summers mean lightweight flowy clothes and stylish sunglasses; our summers mean much-awaited beach vacays and tan lines to flaunt thereafter; our summers mean juicy mangoes on lazy afternoons and revisited memories of childhood summer holidays.
Our summers mean all these and much more...

When I went to view the latest SS 2016 collection of Kolkata-based designer label Bohurupi by Roy, fresh off the ramps of India Runway Week, I was met with a collection that boasted fresh, summery hues; hand block prints on natural fabrics and unique, yet wearable cuts & silhouettes. Designer Abhishek Roy plays around with block prints and natural fabrics to make breathable garments that ooze style, while upholding values of sustainable fashion. The color palette of whites, yellows, limes, greens and browns told an earthy tale with a summery twist and the patterns of flowers, foliage & birds transported me to my own, enchanted summer garden!

After much dilemma, I picked this pretty bird-print long jacket hand block printed on the softest mulmul that, I knew, would easily become my staple summer jacket. I could think of a zillion ways to wear it - on shift dresses, on maxi dresses, on flowy skirts, on cotton tunics - but for now, I thought it best to show how this versatile jacket could be teamed with a regular jeans-and-tee outfit too! Put an ethnic twist with Rajasthani embroidered clutch, jootis and a mirrorwork necklace; and you've got fusion fashion at its best!

The jacket with the cute li'l birdies on it, shot amidst lush green trees & bunches of summer flowers, and accessorized with quintessentially Indian accessories created a frame that could be the perfect representation of an Indian summer.
