Doing Colors, The 1980s Way

by , in
As I've told you guys before, the past eras have always inspired me a lot in terms of fashion and style. Each decade had its own quirk and elements as far as fashion was concerned, and I'm smitten by some trend of the other from each of these eras - be it the 60s shift dresses or the 70s hippie looks or the 80s bold colors!

So, I planned to create a series of contemporary looks by incorporating retro elements from any one decade. You all have seen my indie-fusion take on the 60s fashion. Now it's time to bring on that 80s show to you guys!!!

The 80s was a decade that sent people into a visual tizzy - what with all the bold colors, the vibrant patterns, the oversized styles and the power shoulders! 80s fashion was about everything big - big accessories, big prints, big shoulders and big hair. This is the era when wearing workout gear on the streets became fashionable. This is the era when short skirts & fishnet stockings became the rage. This is the era when color-blocking called for reds to be worn with yellows and greens with purples! The 80s saw all kinds of trends - from the quirky to the bold to the OTT - but they keep coming back from time to time to add fun touches to our ever-changing fashion stories.

There are quite a few trends from that era which I personally like....and I've tried to create a street-style look incorporating a few of the trends - power dressing, joggers, colors, big prints, fishnet and socks with heels!
A lot of you out there love the big, bold, clashing colors of the 80s fashion trends; but feel apprehensive about trying them out in real life. Well, here's the answer to your fashion woes! This outfit not only harmoniously gets together various trends of the era, but also makes for a great look which you can flaunt anywhere - from work to party!

Here are a few ways in which you can embrace these cool 80s trends too:
  • Give power dressing your own twist by pairing your structured blazer with joggers or loose pants.
  • If you are not too confident of color blocking your outfit, then color block your accessories instead! Wear a pink necklace with a blue top or flaunt a green bag with a yellow dress for ultimate 80s vibes!
  • Ditch those sneakers and pair your socks with pumps & kitten heels instead. Make sure your socks are either in vibrant hues or have fun patterns on them!
  • Even though I have kept the hair & make-up quite contemporary here (with the wingtip eyeliner being the only retro touch), you can add 1980s chic to your looks through bright colored eye-shadows or big, blow-dried hair.
  • Embrace the sexiness of fishnets. Wear them as stockings underneath skirts, shorts or ripped denims, as tank tops to be layered with solid colored tees, or wear them as gloves, like I have!
  • Go big, or go home! Flaunt chunky earrings, big bows on headbands, big prints on clothes, oversized sunglasses - 80s fashion was all about the bigger, the better!
  • Have a print party! Polkas, stripes, animal prints, big florals - take all those prints out and pair them with contrast solids for an unmistakable 80s look.
  • This era was the epitome of the "more is more" ideology. Layer clothes to create fun looks, pile on the jewellery - big earrings with layers of necklaces, layer leg warmers with stockings on shoes - when you are taking inspiration from the 80s, you can go as OTT as you want!
Do you love the fashion of the 1980s as much as me?
Have you ever tried any 80s-inspired looks?

by , in
Those of you who are regulars on the blog must remember about the event I attended for the Bangalore launch of the new razor Breeze by Gillette Venus, as well as my review of this new kid on the hair-removal block.

Beauty Gillette venus Breeze womens razor shaving myths busted

I have been using the Gillette Venus Breeze since the past month or so now, and I must say that it's one of the best shaving tools I have used till date! The effortlessness of the process and the amazing smooth skin it'll leave you with is exemplary...and you have to use it to believe it!

With the launch of this new razor, Gillette Venus aims to debunk some of the age-old shaving myths that women have been believing to be true since years!!! Sometimes, girls can't differentiate fact from fiction and end up giving in to their apprehensions about shaving body hair. But all that you thought shaving does to your hair & skin is actually not true!

Beauty Gillette venus Breeze womens razor shaving myths busted

So, here's busting those myths about shaving and encouraging women to embrace the new Gillette Venus Breeze in order to get soft, smooth & hair-less skin in a matter of minutes!

Beauty Gillette venus Breeze womens razor shaving myths busted

Myth #1: Shaving makes your skin darker

Your skin color has got nothing to do with your razor or the process of shaving. Shaving actually exfoliates your skin by getting rid of the upper layer of dead cells, thus making it glow, not making it dark. Just avoid using any deodorants or harsh chemicals on your skin right after shaving, as that might irritate your sensitive skin cells and react adversely on your skin.

Myth #2: Shaving makes your hair grow back faster & thicker

Hair growth is determined by your genes, hormones and your cell structure. The hair that's just started growing always appears thicker & darker due to the blunt ends, but it'll go back to original hair texture & structure once it grows a bit longer - irrespective of whether you are shaving or not.

Myth #3: Razor blades give you nicks & cuts

This completely depends on how you are shaving. The Gillette Venus Breeze gives you a close shave without having to apply too much pressure or having to shave the same area more than once for a better result. Thus, there are zero chances of getting nicks or cuts when shaving with this device. Shaving in the right direction and lubricating your skin for the process reduces all chances of cutting yourself while shaving.

Myth #4: Shaving too often is bad for your skin

If men can afford to shave everyday without harming their skin, why can't you? Gillette Venus Breeze gives your skin the goodness of Aloe Vera through its inbuilt gel bars, thus leaving your skin soft, smooth & supple after a shave, even if you do it every day! Also, shaving actually exfoliates the top layer of dead cells on your skin, thus helping your skin, instead of harming it in any way.

Myth #5: Shaving causes itching, rashes & leaves your skin dry

Itching, rashes & dry skin only result from the lack of use of a good moisturizer on a regular basis. Shaving with your Gillette Venus Breezez leaves your skin smooth & silky, and a good sunscreen (for the exposed parts of your body) or a nourishing moisturizer applied after shaving is enough to take care of your skin and keep it healthy. Of course, you need to make sure you use water while shaving, and use fresh blades and not old, blunt ones in your razor as they can cause itchiness or irritation.

So now you know that all the rumours that kept you from fully embrace the process of shaving your body hair were just that - rumours...and myths!
The Gillette Venus Breeze will easily help you dispel all these worries and flaunt smooth, hair-free skin every day! If done in the right way, and with the right tool; shaving doesn't harm your skin or hair in any way, but only helps you get rid of unwanted hair in the easiest & most effortless way possible!!!
